Reliance launches its smartphone, Reliance JioPhone, a 4G VoLTE phone for Rs. 1000

Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance industries Ltd., announced today their smartphone, JioPhone, a 4G VoLTE feature phone,” a phone made in India, by indians and for indians”,   accomplishing his goal to ensure “connectivity, data affordability and device affordability”,  removing the hurdles from accessing data for millions of Indians.   He calls it ” India ka Smartphone”

The phone has a larger screen accessing to apps, supports 4G data and 4G VoLTE calls.  It also supports NFC for secure mobile payments and 22 indian languages.  Free voice calls and free unlimited data are the key features, however, free unlimited data will be  available only from August 15.  The  actual price of the sound responding phone  is expected to be between Rs. 1000 and Rs. 1,500.

Ambani says Jio plans to cover 99 percent of india’s population in the coming years and adds that Jio will achieve 4G reach in just 3 years pointing out his competitors took 25 years to build their 4G network.  He also says that Jio is aiming for over 10,000 offices and 10 lac outlets for physical distribution of the phone.
